About Peach Street Books
Hi there! We’re Peach Street Books.
We’re an independent book store in Cape Charles, Virginia, right on the corner of Peach Street and Mason Avenue. We have over 10,000 gently used and new books, plus a café with freshly-made coffee drinks, including coffee from local favorite Eastern Shore Coastal Roasters. Peach Street Books is owned by sisters Dr. Carol Sabo and Beth Ann Sabo. Carol is the owner of local restaurant Machipongo Trading Company, and Beth Ann has been training dogs since 2010 here on the Shore.
Our shop was originally a Pure Oil gas station in the 1930s, with a garage attachment built in the late 1950s. After purchasing the building in 2015, we worked hard and thoughtfully to meet historic renovation requirements and keep the spirit of old Cape Charles. Stellar local architect Leon Parham found a way to maintain the integrity of the original station, and RBW Design, led by Robert Bridges -and kept on track by Kate Latham and the team- did the heavy lifting on the project, bringing Peach Street Books to life. You can track the historic renovation process here.
